Chipmaker Allwinner has been churning out its basic single-core A13 SoC CPU for more than a year, with a fair number of budget tablets well under the $US80 making an appearance in that time.
However, according to padhz.com, tablet maker Kilwa has decided to join the club and launch its own A13 MID.
The V711 is about as basic as you can make an Android tablet with its 1.2GHz single-core A13 processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of on-board flash. The 7.0-inch LCD panel has a basic 800×480-pixel resolution.
It reads much like the A13 MIDs you could see everywhere late last year. The one major difference with the V711 is it claimed to come with Android 4.2.2, so while it might not be the latest hardware, it doesn’t get much newer in terms of the operating system. That said, look at retailers such as TMall and they’re saying ‘Android 4.1′, so it’s hard to say really.
Kilwa is selling this for Y399 or approximately $US65, making it one of the cheapest 7.0-inch tablets going around. Our tip? Keep your expectations modest and don’t expect a Nexus 7. We bought something very similar last year – 1.2GHz Allwinner A13 CPU’d 7.0-inch tablet with 800×480-pixel panel – and it’s not a stellar performer.
There’s no HDMI output on the V711 from what we can see so it won’t work as a media player for your HDMI TV.
Bottom line, this is about as simple as you’ll find a 7-inch tablet these days.
