The Thailand Office of Basic Education will release the detail of the next tablet pc purchasing order in 14 April, which is said to be 1.8 million pieces, a significant bigger one than the first order. At least ten tablet pc manufacturers, including Acer, Huawei, TCL and Shenzhen Scope Scientific Development, the successful bidder of the first order, are going to compete for this big cake.
Thailand government lead the world in application of tablet pc in Education. The 1.8 million order is almost equivalent of the whole shipment of Acer tablet pc last year, and 20 percents of its goal this year. Some local companies, Samart Corp., SVOA, Forth Corp. are also showing interest, despite the fact that they have to compete with big brands like Huawei and Acer.
As Bangkok Post points out, the order aims at satisfying needs of teachers and students in Prathom 1 and Mathayom 1. And the government will sign 8 contracts covering 4 districts with the bidder offering the lowest prices.
It is noticed that bidder should possess experience of successful bidding with Thailand government involving at least 50 million Thailand Baht.
The tablet pc for Prathom 1 students, should be under the price of 2720 Baht, equipped with 7 inches screen, 1G RAM, 8G flash storage and a dual core processors running at 1.5G clock, while budget for Mathayom 1 student tablet are a little higher at 2920 baht, for its 8 inches screen and larger flash storage. configurations for teacher's tablet is basically the one provided to Mathayom 1 student, except for its additional supports of HDMI and SD memory card.
Despite its huge scale, considering its low price at just 100 USD and the usual fluctuation in material price, it might be a big challenge for any bidder to fulfill its delivery.
