Brazil Equip Teachers in Public School with Tablet Computers
The Brazil Education Department will give out hundreds of thousands of tablet computers to teachers in public schools. It aims to improve the teaching quality by switching a teacher into a information hub.
The department minister said Brazil government has purchased 460, 000 units of tablets for classroom and will be dispatched to schools that has Internet access in early 2014. Lots of state government have expressed their interest. But the central government will decide which application are valid and should be delivered with tablets directly by suppliers who had been approved by the tender process.
As early as in 2012, The central government had started a plan to equip teachers in federal universities and colleges with tablets. Now this plan is going on with Brazil’s top tablet manufacturers Positivo and Digibras. According to the statement from the department, a piece of 7’’ and a piece of 10’’ costs USD 130 and USD 200 respectively, which is quite high compared to what the market offers at present.
There will be an accompany project to train teachers to take advantage of these digital devices in classroom.
